On the basis of the proportion of reads reporting the mutant allele, the mutations all were heterozygous and within the dominant clone of cellular material . To characterize the spectrum and frequency of SF3B1 mutations in more detail, both in myeloid cancers and additional cancers, we performed targeted resequencing of the gene in 2087 samples . Among 354 individuals with myelodysplastic syndromes, 72 experienced SF3B1 mutations . Mutations were particularly common in patients with subtypes of myelodysplastic syndromes in which ring sideroblasts are a prominent feature, with 53 of 82 patients positive for SF3B1 adjustments.
